Problem: How do I start a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firm?

NexTier can help your firm register as an RIA with your state and/or with the SEC. Your firm's assets under management (AUM) is key. You'll need to apply to FINRA's WebCRD/IARD system to process applications to the state and/or SEC.

• If your firm's AUM < $100mm, you'll need to register with any state where your firm has a physical location, a representative, 5 or more clients, or physically solicits clients.

• If your firm's AUM > $100mm, you'll need to register with the SEC unless your firm qualifies for an exception.

There are several forms required for registration: Form ADV1, ADV 2A, and ADV2B. Additionally, you'll need to have Form CRS (Client Relationship Summary), a Client Advisory Contract, policies and procedures manual, and a privacy policy statement.

NexTier has the experience to guide you through the registration process.
